Abstract Oil Paintings

A precursor to the Perpetual Pursuit series, these early abstract oil paintings were created at UNC Asheville from 2013 - 2015. They juxtapose geometric shapes and abstracted architectural forms such as windows and staircases with organic, curvilinear blind contour drawings superimposed directly onto the surface. Using rich colors and textures, these works conceptualize an idyllic, unattainable place. They represent the beginning of Olshan's history creating 3-dimensional paintings as well as highlighting smaller compositions within larger paintings using sculptural techniques.
